What should I bring to a notary appointment?
The complete, unsigned document and a current government-issued photo ID. If other people are signing, they need to be there with their own ID.
Should I sign the document before we meet?
Please wait. Some documents must be signed in front of the notary, so it's simplest to sign at the appointment.
Can a notary give legal advice?
No. A notary public verifies identity and witnesses signatures but cannot give legal advice or help decide what a document should say.
Is there anyone a Florida notary can't notarize for?
Yes. Florida law does not allow a notary to notarize a signature for their own spouse, son, daughter, mother or father.
